How to secure your cryptocurrency exchange account on OKEx

An overview of account security features available to OKEx users

The security of user funds and assets is the foremost priority at OKEx. Not only have we established sophisticated security systems for our internal wallets, but we also provide industry-leading security features and tools to our users.

In this tutorial, we will go over some of the following security features that can help users secure their digital assets on OKEx:

  • Login password
  • Email verification
  • Google Authenticator
  • Funds password
  • Mobile verification
  • Mandatory 2FA
  • Anti-phishing code

The process of setting up these measures starts at sign-up. If you don't already have an account at OKEx, you can visit the sign-up page or follow the instructions below.

Step 1: Sign up for a new account on OKEx

Navigate to the OKEx homepage and click on Sign up, located in the top right corner.

Along with particulars such as your email address or phone number, you will also be required to enter a password to secure your account.

The password should be 6–32 characters long, including a number, a letter, and either an uppercase letter or a special character. Once done, click on Sign up to proceed.

In the example above, we use an email address to create a new account. After you click on Sign up, you will receive a verification email from OKEx on the address you provided. Check your email for the six-digit verification code, enter it in the required field, and click Continue to complete the registration process.

Step 2: Go to the security settings page

Once you sign in to your account, you can hover over to the profile icon located in the top right. A drop-down menu will be displayed and you can click on Security settings to proceed.

OKEx provides a variety of security measures to protect your account. You can review the completed and pending security items under the "Security Settings" tab.

Throughout this tutorial, we will continue to refer to this tab as the main section for all the security features.

Step 3: Activate security features

OKEx users can secure their funds by activating the various account security measures shown on the "Security Settings" tab. Currently, there are seven security features available to users, with the first two being the use of an account password and the account verification email mentioned above. The other five security features are discussed below.

Google Authenticator

Google Authenticator is a free software authenticator provided by Google and is widely used to generate time-based, one-time codes. OKEx users who activate Google Authenticator are required to provide confirmation codes when withdrawing funds or making changes to the security settings of their accounts.

To activate Google Authenticator, users first need to open the "Security Settings" section and then click on Settings in the "Google Authenticator" column to proceed.

Users will then be directed to the webpage detailing the steps required to set up their Google Authenticator.

If you don't have the Google Authenticator app installed, you can scan the QR code on the webpage and download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play. 

Open Google Authenticator after installation and scan the provided QR code or enter the provided key to retrieve a six-digit code.

To complete the binding process, click Get code to receive a code on your email address or phone number, and then enter it into the relevant field along with the six-digit Google authentication code and click Confirm to proceed.

Once you have set up Google Authenticator, it will be listed under "Completed Security Items" on the "Security Settings" tab. You can click on Guide to learn more about Google Authenticator, or click on Reset or Turn off to change settings.

Funds password

The funds password is required when users want to withdraw their assets from OKEx. Prior to creating the funds password, users are required to bind their accounts with Google Authenticator, as shown in the step above. After that, users can set up the funds password by clicking on Settings in the "Funds Password" column of the "Security Settings" tab.

Enter and confirm your funds password on the next screen along with the SMS verification code received on your mobile. Click Confirm to proceed.

After this, the funds password will appear in the "Completed Security Items" list. You can click Change to modify its settings.

Mobile verification

The mobile verification feature allows users to receive codes on their mobile devices in order to confirm fund withdrawals, password changes and changes in other settings. 

In order to activate this security feature, you have to open the "Security Settings" tab once again and click on Settings in the "Mobile Verification" column.

Choose your country and enter your corresponding mobile number on the next screen. Then, click on Get code to receive both the SMS and email codes. Enter the codes in the field and click Confirm to proceed.

You will receive an email confirmation upon successful completion of mobile verification, and the option will be moved under the "Completed Security Items" list like the others. Click on Change or Turn off to change the settings later.

Mandatory 2FA

When enabled, mandatory two-factor authentication is required for account login, fund withdrawals and sending red packets. Click Turn on from the "Security Settings" tab to activate this feature.

Click on Get code to receive an SMS code. Enter it in the provided field and click Confirm.

After this, mandatory 2FA will appear in the "Completed Security Items" list and you can turn it on or off later.

Anti-phishing code

An anti-phishing code protects users from email phishing attacks by helping them authenticate emails sent by OKEx. Click on Settings next to the "Anti-phishing Code" feature on the "Security Settings" tab and create any code of your choice. Once done, click on Get code for SMS verification, enter the received code and click Confirm to proceed.

After this you can review your anti-phishing code settings from the "Completed Security Items" list.

Your anti-phishing code will appear in all email communications from OKEx, which will assure you of the email's authenticity.

Review your security settings

As you complete the setup for any of the security features discussed above, they are displayed in the "Completed Security Items" list on the "Security Settings" tab. You can then review the settings for each of those features, change them or turn them on or off, as desired.

Given how digital assets have no central issuing authority, they are vulnerable to hacking and theft. It is recommended that users take all necessary precautions, including using these security features, and ensuring that their devices are free from malware and viruses.
